Santa Clara to Alum Rock Rapid Transit, San Jose, Santa Clara County, CA
This project constructed a bus rapid transit corridor in San Jose, running from the Eastridge Transit Center to the Diridon Transit Center. The transit corridor is approximately 7.4 miles long, and includes dedicated bus lanes on Alum Rock Avenue. PARIKH coordinated field exploration, obtained samples, and conducted lab tests and engineering analyses to provide geotechnical recommendations for pavement and station foundations.
The Alum Rock Ave segment proved a particular challenge as VTA changed general contractors during construction due to issues with grading and time scheduling. PARIKH provided construction support, working closely with the new contractor to ensure successful and timely project completion. Support included on-site observation and recommendations for subgrade improvements, including over-excavation with aggregate base replacement and geotextile reinforcement. PARIKH helped to ensure the subgrade was compacted to specified standards.
