Estudillo-Callan Parking Garage
San Leandro, CA
Project Dates: 2008 – 2012
Client: City of San Leandro
Cost: $12 Million
Project Description: The Estudillo-Callan parking garage is a replacement of an existing two-story parking garage with a four-story parking structure. The new garage contains 384 parking spaces, a capacity increase of about fifty percent over the facility it replaces. The garage supports existing businesses in downtown San Leandro by providing safe, convenient parking for employees and business patrons, while leaving San Leandro’s surface lots and street parking for shoppers.
Services: PARIKH Consultants Inc. provided geotechnical engineering services for the Estudillo-Callan Parking Structure. Project included seismic design parameters, foundation recommendations for cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) piles, retaining walls, an investigation and evaluation of soil corrosivity, and recommendations for bioswale design. Project challenges included utilizing and incorporating existing pile foundations to carry much heavier design loads. Extensive design coordination with the team and confirmation of as-built conditions were required to salvage the existing system. PARIKH provided full construction support to the City of San Leandro and the contractor, ensuring the schedule and quality of the project was not compromised. All work was completed on time and within the allocated budget.
